In August of 2006 John and I travelled up to Sackville, New Brunswick to talk with singer / songwriter Julie Doiron. We sat on her front porch and as cars drove by in the warm afternoon John interviewed Julie about writing songs, getting started in a rock band, how to make an album, and what she’s working on now. In part A Julie talks about her inspiration, writing songs and making albums. We finish the first part with the song “Snow Falls in November” from Julie’s album, “Goodnight Nobody” which is released on Jagjaguwar Records. We finally went camping and hiking in Fundy National Park and had some fun, but a storm cut our stay short. Bad Metaphor #8 – Camping was recorded on location in New Brunswick in Fundy National Park and just outside of Fredericton in Staples Settlement while we visited John’s grandparents on my side. We camped at Point Wolfe and recorded sound on Point Wolfe beach, the Coppermine Trail, and beside a campfire in Staples Settlement. John also talks a little bit about his Tamagotchi which he kept with him while we were having adventures. You can see pictures of us Camping and Hiking in Fundy in July 2006.

Since we were rained out a week earlier, we wanted to camp again in Fundy. Luckily we were able to get another night of camping in with Carolyn, who is my partner in life and John’s mom as well. While Carolyn drove, John and I recorded a short phone podcast as we were driving home from Fundy National Park.

Our Fundy adventure was truncated thanks to the remants of a tropical storm and we managed to record some audio in the field which will show up in an future Bad Metaphor. One the way home we posted via phone on Odeo about being Rained Out in Fundy National Park. We had fun and were able to hike and camp and cook outside, so we hit most of the goals that we set out.

It’s Summer and we’re on vacation and on our first adventure we went to the Discovery Centre in Halifax. Listen to Bad Metaphor 7 – Summer (12 minutes, 11.1 MB). John begins somewhat randomly by reciting Jabberwocky by Lewis Carroll (accompanied by Dark in Here by James Shuttleworth, which is a track I found on Opsound). Then we talk about our trip to the Discovery Centre and the things that we saw there which you can see in our Flickr photo set A Trip to the Discovery Centre. We wrap it all up with some ideas for what can you do on vacation such as jodi.org and Superbad or more outdoor-related things such as visiting Cape Breton or Fundy National Park.

We take things on the road in Bad Metaphor #6 – Work (15 minutes, 15 seconds, and 15 frames) and we talk about work at the Nova Scotia Community College Halifax Downtown Site. Chris and John walk around the areas where Screen Arts is taught. We go in the office, the studio and the edit suites and look at the technology used to make films and videos. It’s the first Bad Metaphor that we’ve done outside of Wolfville as we get ready for a few road trips this summer.
